Christian Education

"She will feed him with the bread of learning, and

give him the water of wisdom to drink."

(Sirach 15:3)

Whether you call it Sunday School, Christian Education, or Christian Formation, setting time aside to learn the powerful message of Christ’s love, and how it applies to our lives, is meant for God’s Children of All Ages!

On Sundays, during our program year, mid-September through mid-May:

St. Luke’s offers Christian Education for young and old on Sundays.

  • For Children: Children and youth of all ages are invited to come upstairs (during the school year) at 10:15 a.m. to sing with Grandpa Bob.  Chapel will begin at 10:30 a.m., and we will join the larger church family downstairs at the Peace.  We are so thankful for Storytellers Elena, Linda, Carol, and Michael to share God’s word in fun and relevant ways for our young friends.

Parents and Grandparents, please note:  child care will be provided during Adult Forums Sundays beginning at 9:15 a.m.  Children may enjoy the quiet activities in the parish hall Children’s Corner, or they are welcome to come upstairs for some informal activities as then stay for Chapel.  We LOVE that you are here! Gather with us in this community formed around love and service to others.
  • For Adults: Adult Forum sessions will be held from 9:15-10:00AM in the parish hall. Attendees who wish to stay after 10:00AM may continue the conversations. The ending time is designed to give participants in the 10:30AM service opportunity to prepare.  The new format will consist of varying presentations including speakers, perhaps a discussion of Bishop Scanlan's weekly video, a TED talk, or a thought-provoking question followed by group discussion. Join us!

  • For Everyone: Intergenerational programs are held several times throughout the year, for example, on the Baptism of our Lord and on Pentecost. These activities are a special time when young and old share the Good News together.

Sunday School is not something held over from the “dark ages.” It is alive and well, and helping all God’s children to live into the GOOD NEWS!

 Other Christian Formation Programs:

VBS (Vacation Bible School) 2024, was held in July as a combined event including churches from Camp Hill and Harrisburg.

For those wanting a more in-depth experience, Education for Ministry (EfM) is available - sometimes here at St. Luke's and other times through a cooperative effort within the Diocese. EfM is a 36-week, small-group program designed by The School of Theology, University of the South, for lay persons to explore their faith and learn to apply those insights to our own lives. Find out more about the program on their web site, efm.sewanee.edu/.  Contact our Church Administrator for information about joining St. Luke's group.

For details on all of our programs, check out our Calendar and Events, or contact our Church Administrator.
