Worship

Jesus answered, "It is written:  'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.' "

(Luke 4:8)

The Worship Committee’s mission is to invite the congregation to the celebration of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, in thanksgiving, praise and worship through song and silence.

The committee helps to coordinate all parts of our worship life including:

  • Acolytes, who lead the opening and closing processions, carry the cross and other items to and from the altar, and assist the clergy in other ways.  There are no age requirements, only the ability to serve.

  • Altar Guild members, otherwise known as "God's Housekeepers," who care for and prepare the altar and appointments.

  • The Choir:  All singers are welcome, and no special talent is necessary. Rehearsals are held Thursday afternoons from September through May from 1:30 to 3:00PM.

  • Eucharistic Ministers, who serve at the altar in number of ways, including accepting the bread and wine, and the collection from the oblation bearers and ushers, helping the priest prepare for communion, and offering the chalice of wine to those who wish to partake.

  • Eucharistic Visitors, who take the consecrated bread and wine to St. Luke's members who are in hospitals or care facilities, or who are homebound due to illness.

  • Lay Readers, who read the first and second lessons, the Psalm, and Prayers of the People.

  • Oblation Bearers, who bring the bread and the wine to the altar to be concecrated by the priest.

  • Ushers, who welcome everyone at the door, distribute the worship booklet, and answer the questions of new comers and visitors.

  • Music at our services.

  • Special worship services.

  • Tract rack booklets, which can be found in our gathering space.
