Give to God what is God’s
Pledge cards are going out!  It’s such a practical aspect of our life together to fill out that pledge card and support the stewardship of St. Luke’s.  All churches do it.  Most parishioners dread the October emphasis on $$$.  So I sit here ready to write my Pastor’s Ponderings and I’m pondering how to make this spiritual and theological as well as practical.  I’m the priest.  That’s my job, isn’t it?!
The theological is there is front of us – all things belong to God.  At the 8:00 service each Sunday, as we take our offering to the altar, we proclaim, “We give thee but thine own, and of thine own have we given thee.”  Spiritually, I believe that we are in a relationship with God, and it is through that holy relationship that we offer not only the treasure of our lives, but also our time, which is precious to most of us, and our talent - the gifts of our hearts and hands.  And we do so with a spirit filled with prayer and devotion.  St. Luke’s is one of the most spiritually generous parishes I have known.  Time AND talent AND treasure are shared with generous hearts.  So, practically speaking, as you receive your pledge card, how do you want to give to God what is God’s in the coming year?  As we grow our faith community here, what treasure can you give, what time can you share, what talent can you enrich the beloved community of St. Luke’s with?
With faith and hope,
Pastor Kate
