St. Luke's Day Open House and Brunch

We will be celebrating our patron saint on Sunday, Oct. 20th, 2019 with services at 8am and 10:30am and Brunch at noon.

St. Luke, the Evangelist” — That’s the “official” designation for the day when we celebrate and commemorate the life of Luke, companion of Paul, whom tradition identifies as “Luke, the beloved physician” (Colossians 4:14). St. Luke’s actual commemoration day is October 18th, but is transferred to Sunday because he is our patron and namesake. We are indebted to Luke, both as writer and physician. As a writer, hence “St. Luke, the Evangelist,” Luke is responsible for more of the Christian New Testament than even Paul (who is often given incorrect credit for that fact). As “the beloved physician,” Luke is the Patron Saint and Protector of physicians and surgeons, but also illuminators, notaries, writers, and artists. This Sunday, on Luke’s Feast Day, we remember his life for sharing the story of our Lord Jesus and for his ministry as a medical doctor. We do that this Sunday as we hear Luke’s telling of Jesus heading to his hometown of Nazareth to tell the folks in the synagogue that he had come to “proclaim good news to the poor.” And, we as disciples, as followers, are to continue that message. This Sunday, we also remember Luke’s ministry as a physician by incorporating a service of healing with the laying on of hands and anointing, asking God for healing and wholeness in our lives and in the lives of those we touch. And, we as disciples, as followers, are to continue that message and ministry in proclaiming the good news, in working toward and inviting others to find healing, wholeness, and the fullness of life with Christ. We hope to see you!
